Rayman is back, but not in the way longtime fans of the platform game hero might have wished. The character has appeared in Netflix's new animated series and leads an unexceptional life.

Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix, a show set in the universe of Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, is now available on Netflix. The story is set on an alternate Earth in 1992, but Rayman also found his place in the series. Owned by Ubisoft, the character hasn't received a new game in years, and fans of the character certainly didn't expect to see him in this form.

Already a week ago, social media showed frames depicting the legend of platform games and his new incarnation. Rayman has somehow been brought back to Earth and is currently involved in journalism, hosting a news program and his own talk-show.. There is nothing about the character that reminds one of the friendly game protagonist.

The new Rayman is aggressive, vulgar and has a problem with drugs. The seemingly still positive and friendly hero is even given his own movie telling the story of his difficult path to the top in a world intolerant of those like him. However, it's all appearances and one accident in the video is enough for Rayman to quickly begin to roll downhill.

In Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix viewers can see a dystopian vision in which the United States is under the full control of the Eden megacorporation. Because of this, everything is branded by the giant, from news programs even to the name of the country. The title character is betrayed and imprisoned, and then - like in Suicide Squad - the guards place a bomb inside him. Under the threat of setting it off, they force Laserhawk into a series of covert operations.

The show consists of six episodes and all are available on Netflix.
