Monolith is a science-fiction adventure game developed by Animation Arts known from Lost Horizon and Secret Files series.
Plot
In Monolith, we play the astronaut Nolan Carter, who after waking up from cryogenic sleep discovers with horror that his ship crashed on an alien planet located outside the examined galaxy areas. At the same time, he manages to record a strange pulsating signal and the protagonist recognizes that at his source he has a chance to find something that will save his life. In reality, however, he will find something that makes him question both his knowledge and his sanity. The screenplay draws on classic novels and science-fiction films and takes the story it tells seriously.
Mechanics
Monolith is a short production. During the game, we have the opportunity to visit about fifty scenes, and the whole game takes roughly five hours. We spend this time on a typical adventure game - we explore locations, collect objects and solve logical puzzles. The puzzles are closely related to the plot and most of them are based on the proper use of found objects or manipulation of various machines. Less experienced players can use hints.
Technical aspects
Monolith offers 2D backgrounds full of details with 3D characters. The whole is maintained in a slightly comic style, which is helped by the use of the cell-shading technique.
