Deadpool Director on His Approach to Star Wars Movie
Shawn Levy, who has been named the director of a mysterious project set in the Star Wars universe, revealed what guidelines he received from Lucasfilm for the work.
It's not a well-known fact that film studios very often impose their own visions on the creators they hire for their projects. Interestingly, in the case of Disney and Shawn Levy, the collaboration looks quite different.
The creator of Deadpool, who has been named director of a new project set in the Star Wars universe, revealed that Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy gave him a free hand to work on the movie.
"When Kathy Kennedy invited me to make a Star Wars movie, her main message was: 'I want a Shawn Levy movie. I want a story and tone that reflects you, your taste and what you bring to your movies - expect with a Star Wars story'. So I felt extremely encouraged," he revealed in an interview with Variety.
The filmmaker reported that due to the screenwriter strike, work on the project has been severely delayed. Nevertheless, he claims that he is pleased with the freedom he has received from his employers.
"Unfortunately, we are at the beginning of the road, because the creative process was suddenly halted, but I feel very motivated to trust my instincts while making this story and movie," he continued.
Levy added that work on the third installment of Deadpool, in which the titular Mercenary with a mouth will form a duet with the iconic Wolverine, may help him prepare for the mysterious Star Wars project.
"The experience I currently have with Marvel on Deadpool, shows me that you can really feel strong and personally involved in making a movie in a universe that is bigger than any other production. My Deadpool is turning out to be exactly what Ryan [Reynolds - ed. note] and I were hoping for when we started. So I proceed to work on my Star Wars movie with similar optimism and faith that my instincts can guide me to my goal," assured Levy.
So there is nothing left for us to do but be patient and await the first concrete information about the untitled show set in the world of Star Wars.
